Wines of the Middle Rhine Valley

Filled with Vibrancy

Our wines grow in the most romantic part of the entire Rhine river – the Middle Rhine Valley. It stretches 120 kilometers from Bingen in the south to Bonn in the north. Over thousands of years the river carved its way deep into the rocks. Steep vineyards, majestic castles and the world famous Loreley line the stream. The area is world renowned not only for its beautiful landscape but also for its first class wines. The southern part of our prestigious valley has been classified as UNESCO world heritage in 2002.

Slate - rich in minerals - in the Upper Middle Rhine Valley (Bingen to Koblenz), as well as pumice, greywacke and volcanic rock in the Lower Middle Rhine Valley (Koblenz to Bonn), combined with a very favourable climate provide ideal growing conditions for our Riesling vines. Among others, our range of white wines also includes Rivaner, Kerner, pinot white and pinot gris. Pinot noir, Dornfelder and Portugieser are the most dominant red wine varieties. Many wine makers use some of their Riesling grapes to produce lively sparkling wine. Schnapps, liqueur and brandy complete the product range.

Whether trying local food in a “Strausswirtschaft” or dining in top-notch restaurants and hotels – our gastronomy has something to offer for every taste and is closely linked to local wineries. We look forward to welcoming you in our beautiful Middle Rhine Valley. Come visit our members' wine shops, take a tour in a cellar or taste wines directly in a vineyard. Enjoy a glass of wine or a bite to eat and discover our heartfelt hospitality.

Best Vineyard View 2020

Winner from the Middle Rhine: Nuerer Kopf, Leutesdorf

"Wines of Germany", the German wine industry's marketing organization, regularly searches for the best vineyard view in each of Germany's 13 wine growing areas. The general public could choose their favourites via an online vote in early 2020. The winner from the Middle Rhine Valley is the so-called "Nuerer Kopf" (Nuerer head), a beautiful site near Leutesdorf. The view extends over the town of Leutesdorf and the Rhine towards Andernach accross the river. You can enjoy this spectacular view from a giant wooden "vineyard swing" that has recently been set up there.
