Rhine facilities

Kaiserin-Augusta-Anlagen, 56068 Koblenz

The 3.5 km long Rhine facilities in Koblenz connect the southern Kaiserin-Augusta facilities with the northern Konrad-Adenauer bank. For the Federal Horticultural Show 2011, the historic promenade was extensively modernised and the infrastructure expanded. With a grandiose view of the Rhine and numerous sights along the way, the facilities are made for a relaxed stroll and linger.

The 3.5-kilometre-long Rhine parks on the left bank of the Rhine connect the northern Konrad Adenauer bank with the southern Kaiserin-Augusta-Anlagen and are thus a section of the Rhine cycle path. The Kaiserin-Augusta-Anlagen were designed between 1856 and 1861 by the Prussian garden designer Peter-Joseph Lenné (Sanssouci, Pfaueninsel, etc.) on behalf of Augusta of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach, the wife of Emperor Wilhelm I. The second section of the Rhine Park was completed in 1902. In 1902, the second section of the Rhine complex - today's Konrad-Adenauer-Ufer - was built from the Electoral Palace to the Deutsches Eck. As part of the 2011 Federal Garden Show, the Rhine facilities were redesigned and the infrastructure upgraded. A magnificent riverside boulevard has been created, lined with important sights and with a view of the Rhine and Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, inviting visitors to take a relaxed stroll and linger.
