Kaiserhof
Salhofplatz 3, 56112 Lahnstein
The "Kaiserhof" is an impressive building from the Gründerzeit featuring stucco ornaments. In 1909, Eduard Beckmann was a hotelier and advertised his "new house with central heating." In 1929, the Lauer family took over the operation and ran it for 66 years. In 1995, the building was sold to the Volksbank, which has since used it for its administration.
Kaiserhof - Salhofplatz
The Salhof, the Hexenturm, and the section of the city wall at the end of the square survived the destruction during the devastating wars of the 17th century. Johann Freiherr vom und zum Stein, an ancestor of the famous Prussian diplomat, acquired the former royal court and had it remodeled and expanded in the contemporary Baroque style.
In the 19th century, the Municipal Market Hall moved into the dominant building. In response to the growing number of tourists and business travelers, a luxurious hotel, the Kaiserhof, was built on the opposite side of the square in the early 20th century.
Today, the historical Salhof houses the tourist information center of the city of Lahnstein, while the large hall serves for administrative receptions. The Hexenturm, one of six preserved defense towers of the city fortifications, has housed parts of the Lahnstein City Museum since 1965.
