Johannes Metten (born 1929, died 2020 in Mainz) is one of the most important artists of the region.

Johannes Metten (born 1929 in Mainz) is one of the most important artists of the region. From 1949 he first studied at the Landeskunstschule in Mainz under Emy Roeder and later took a master class in Munich, where he met his future wife, the artist Liesel Metten. Liesel Metten was born in Recklinghausen in 1938 and studied fine arts with Prof. Heinrich Kirchner in Munich in 1957. In 1961 she married Johannes Metten and both moved to Nieder-Olm. Liesel Metten's sculptures reflect the artist's strong imagination and inventiveness. Her animals are creatures situated between reality and fantasy, lovable and mysterious. Johannes Metten's torsos, mutations and mutants, which are characteristic of him, reveal his love for the material (Langstraße 26). The entrance is located on the city wall. Objects of art are the bronze sculptures "the three poets", "the Loreley" and the "raven's chair" in the Rhine facilities as well as "the fish" (Langstraße 12) and "the horned animal" (in the garden of Oberstraße 5).
